What it costs

Ten bucks gets you on the line.

There are no lanes to book and no forms to fill out. Pay the range fee when you arrive, then buy rounds as you go. A round is 25 targets, the standard trap round.

Bring your own shotgun and your own shells. Any 12 or 20 gauge shotgun that will cycle target loads works fine. Eye and ear protection are required on the line.

The grounds

Eight acres, one trap house, a lot of firs.

Trap lanes, a clubhouse to get out of the rain, plenty of parking, and a picnic table for between rounds.

Bring the family

Friendly people, a careful line.

Ask anyone who has shot here what stood out and you hear the same three things. Everybody was friendly, everybody was helpful, and everybody takes safety seriously. That is why folks bring their kids, their parents and their friends who have never held a shotgun.

Friendly

Walk up to the clubhouse and somebody says hello. Regulars and first-timers shoot on the same line, and nobody cares how many targets you miss.

Helpful

Not sure how the rotation works, or short a set of ears? Ask. Members are glad to talk a new shooter through a round and lend a hand wherever it is needed.

Safety first

Eye and ear protection on the line, guns pointed downrange, and everyone keeping an eye out for each other. Bringing a young shooter? Call ahead and someone will make time to help.

Never shot trap?

Your first round, start to finish.

1. Show up

Come on a shoot day, find whoever is at the clubhouse, and say you are new. Someone will walk you through it. Nobody minds.

2. Gear up

Shotgun, a box of target loads, eye and ear protection. If you are short on something, ask. There is usually a spare set of ears around.

3. Shoot a round

Five stations, five shots each. Call "pull," the target flies, you swing through it. Twenty-five targets later you are a trap shooter.
